Poppies maintain a kind of stoic serenity year-round, pulling you into daydreams filled with clear skies, swishing grasses and the distant hum of beetles and crickets. Here, delicate blossoms are juxtaposed with rugged seed pods, all supported by tall, slender stalks and topped with that iconic red.
This salt pig is thrown on the wheel using porcelain stoneware clay in my studio, located in Calgary, Alberta. The graphic on the salt pig has been hand-carved into the surface using the sgraffito technique, which involves covering the salt pig's surface with my handmade black slip and carving away until the image is finished. This means you can feel the slightly raised carved texture. I have left the inside of the salt pig unglazed as this helps keep your salt dry. While I create different series of designs, each salt pig is made and decorated individually, so that no two pieces are identical, and each design is matched with one of my brightly coloured glazes.
Sizing: All of my salt pigs are handmade, so their individual sizes may differ slightly. I do my best to keep them as consistent as possible. Approximately 100mL Stands about 9cm tall and is 9cm wide at the base
